Heights Ateneo — The Official Literary and Artistic Publication and Organization of the Ateneo de Manila University

Heights Introduces Editorial Board for A.Y. 2020-2021

Heights Ateneo | Oct 10, 2020

Entering its 68th year, the Heights Editorial Board is composed of seventeen editors—five executive editors and twelve staff editors, appointed last May 2020. Together, the editors fulfill the task of promoting artistic and literary excellence as an organization and publication, while engaging the Ateneo community with art and literature through its folios, events, and other flagship projects.

              The Executive Editors

At the forefront of the editorial board is Editor-in-Chief, Zofia Agama. Assisting her is Associate Editor, Gewell Llorin, director for both the Ateneo Heights Artists Workshop (AHAW) and Ateneo Heights Writers Workshop (AHWW). They are joined by three managing editors. Giane Butalid, the Managing Editor for External Affairs, handles Heights’ public relations and external collaborations and serves as the director for Kuwentong Pambata, one of the organization’s flagship projects. Managing Editor for Internal Affairs, Justin Barbara, oversees member development, ensuring the members of Heights engage with art and literature whilst pursuing the values and excellence the organization upholds. Nathan Lim, the Managing Editor for Finance, is responsible for Heights’ finance-related activities.

The organizational structure of Heights is divided into two main branches: deliberating staffs and organizational staffs. The deliberating staffs and organizational staffs are each headed by six editors. Tasked to manage staff-specific duties, these twelve editors are in charge of their respective staffs’ skills development through opportunities for workshops and training.

  Deliberating Staff Editors

The deliberating editors facilitate critical discussions of works received as contributions to the folio. Sean Carballo and Stanley Guevarra are this year’s English editors. The Art Staff is led by Clare Tantoco and Justine Valdez. Cydney Mangubat and Bernardine De Belen take charge of Bagwisang Filipino. Gewell Llorin, the Associate Editor, heads the six deliberating editors.

The organizational editors oversee the events production, design and layout of promotional materials and publications, and the content for Heights’ social media and website. They are led by Giane Butalid, Managing Editor for External Affairs.

Organizational Staff Editors

The Design Staff is under Giulia Lopez and Patricia Fermin. Gianna Sibal and Simone Yatco are the Online editors, while Cesar Fabro and Paul Anonuevo are the Production managers.

This year’s Editorial Board will work towards emboldening the conscious creation of art and literature in times of upheaval. Guided by this thrust, we seek to reorient our place as a publication amid uncertainty and volatility by allowing courage, awareness, and responsibility to prevail in the act of creating.

Together, the Editorial Board will continue to uphold 68 years of literary and artistic excellence within these challenging and unprecedented times. As the editors of this publication and organization, we are humbled and honored to be in this place of service.
